Analytical Chemist - 1st Shift

Pro-Form has immediate openings for an Analytical Chemist to work at our manufacturing facility in Benicia, CA. 

Summary:

The Analytical Chemist performs laboratory tests to ensure quality and quantity of known samples; utilizing, but not limited to, HPLC, FTIR, ELISA, ICP-MS and Protein Analyzer. When product specifications are not met, proper out of specification procedures are followed to confirm non-conformance. The Laboratory Manager will instruct Chemist on how to address issues and recommend various analytical techniques to achieve qualification/quantification. Chemist should be self-motivated, work well on a team, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong analytical skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Performing laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support products and raw materials release.
  • Carrying out routine tasks accurately and following strict compendia methods with relation to vitamin analysis and others.
  • Maintaining and operating HPLC and troubleshooting.
  • Ensuring the consumables need for laboratory operation are well-stocked and resourced.
  • Recording and interpreting results to present to senior as well as junior colleagues.
  • Keeping up to date with technical developments, especially those which can increase efficiency and improve robustness.
  • Following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks while working in the laboratory.
  • Able to search through USP & AOAC and other relevant reference books.

Position Qualifications:

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Possess knowledge and experience in HPLC.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and troubleshooting on HPLC instrument.
  • Ability to perform method development in HPLC.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. 
  • Work well with others and contribute to a positive environment.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Internet Explorer and Contact Manager.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule including daily overtime and weekends.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with 24 hours in chemistry or related discipline.
Working knowledge of LC Solution and Chemstation software package is a plus.
2 years’ experience preparing and analyzing samples for HPLC.

Analytical Chemist reports directly to the Laboratory Manager.
